Patricia B Howell

July 5, 1948 – August 19, 2025

Never one to make a fuss, Patricia B Howell, 77, passed away peacefully on her own in the early morning hours of August 19, 2025. Patty Lynn was born on July 5, 1948 to Dean and Edith Bullock in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. She was the middle of three daughters and always best friends with her sisters Sue & Pam. With Deano serving as an officer in the Army, Mom was a military brat, living wherever her dad was assigned with notable time spent in Germany and North Carolina. Her family later moved to Olympus Cove where she attended Skyline High, graduating in 1966. After graduation, Pat dated Lane Steven Howell and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on November 26, 1969. Through 25 years of marriage they had ten wonderful children and moved numerous times between the avenues of Salt Lake City; Carmel, Indiana; and Holladay, Utah. Being a single mom was not easy as Pat tirelessly worked multiple jobs while also attending the University of Utah for her bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology. Her kids loved when she worked as an ambulance driver for Gold Cross and she would pull the rig into the driveway late at night with lights flashing, waking everyone up. Pat was employed for 21 years at ARUP laboratories as a lab technologist in the hematopathology and histology departments before she retired in 2017. Eleven children - six boys and five girls - had the privilege of calling Pat “mom.” Her eldest son, Ryan, was placed for adoption in 1969 and they were joyfully reunited 27 years later. Pat also chose to love and foster Annie Whiskers alongside her own kids for several years. She was absolutely meant to be a mom and grandma with her enduring patience and love, especially with babies she could snuggle and play “round and round the garden.” She did everything she could for her kids including leading Girl Scout troops; attending countless sporting events, concerts, and performances; planning adventurous camping trips; and so many visits to the ER for stitches or broken bones. Her home was always open and she welcomed family, friends, and strangers alike whenever they needed a place to stay. In August of 2017, Pat reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Dale Beam. They soon rediscovered their love for each other and were married on February 10, 2018. The following year they were sealed in the Jordan River temple on April 25 for time and all eternity. Their reunification was a true blessing as Dale was able to love, support, and care for Pat as her dementia sadly progressed faster than any of us expected. Pat had a deep love of music, particularly primary songs. Her children adopted her love of musicals like Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. That love of music transported her to the dance floor with many nights spent at the Murray Arts Center, reminiscent of her dancing at the army officers' club as a youth. Pat also took piano lessons as an adult and would often sing in the ward choir. Even near the end of her life, she always remembered her favorite songs and would sing along whenever she heard them. If she were to be any animal, Pat would have been a hummingbird. She was dutiful about filling her bird feeders and also loved to fly. She took flying lessons and worked hard to receive her small aircraft pilot license. Even as her dementia progressed, she would hear airplanes or helicopters flying overhead then search the skies with her arms outstretched until she spotted them. Now she has her very own set of angel wings. Mom’s cooking was delectable. She woke up extra early before work to make the kids breakfast and there was always a crowd of people at her home for Sunday dinner or Swedish pancakes on Christmas and General Conference Sunday. She could create delicious meals with whatever was in the pantry, but her timeless recipes are deeply cherished by her kids. Throughout her life, Pat was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings in Relief Society and Primary, often being asked to lead the music. Although not outspoken, her testimony of the gospel was strong and she made sure her children were taught that “Jesus said love everyone.” She was a longtime member of the Holladay 24th ward and made many lasting friendships while living on Lynne Lane for 33 years. Patricia is survived by her husband, Dale Beam; her children: Ryan Jakeman (Andi), RayDean Howell, Greg Howell (Jennifer), Cameron Howell (Kim), Stephanie Bullock (Jerel), Lincoln Howell (Carrie), Tom Howell (Shalaun), Sam Howell, Meredith Kelley, Randi Scott (Roy), and Katherine X Bell (K.C.); her sisters Susan Robbins (Michael) and Pamela McDaniel; 47 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Edith Bullock, her brother-in-law Calvin McDaniel, and her grandson Dillon Howell. A private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. An open house for friends and family will be held that evening from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Holladay North Stake Center, 4395 S Albright Drive, Holladay,
