Craig William Sorensen
March 5, 1948 - January 1, 2004

Craig William Sorensen 1948 ~ 2004  Craig William Sorensen, 55, died peacefully January 1, 2004, after a short battle with cancer.  Craig was born March 5, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the third child and eldest son of Lynn A. and Janet Weech Sorensen's nine children. He graduated from Skyline High School in 1966 and earned a BS in computer science in 1973 from Brigham Young University. From 1973 to 2002, he worked in several capacities at Unisys (previously Sperry/Univac). His most recent position was Software  Engineer. Craig married Nancy Stewart on August 11, 1983, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they became the proud parents of two talented daughters, Jennifer and April. He was devoted to Nancy. He loved being a father and was "the best father there could ever be." As a faithful member of the L.D.S. Church, Craig achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. From 1967 to 1969, he served in the Central Atlantic States Mission. His Church callings included Primary teacher, counselor in the Elders Quorum (six times), Ward Clerk, and counselor in the Bishopric of the Crescent Park Third Ward; Stake Clerk, Stake Executive Secretary, and High Council member in the Crescent Park Stake. His help and fun-loving personality contributed to the success of many Girls' Camp activities. Craig was always involved in stake drama productions, both as an actor (one memorable role was Mayor Shin in "The Music Man") and as a technical director. His enthusiasm and technical creativity-for example, he made spotlights from #10 cans-were  exceptional. Craig also gave many years of service to his community, especially the schools. He was School Community Council Chairman for Altara Elementary School, Crescent View Middle School, and currently for Alta High School.  Craig enjoyed creating and working in his beautifully tiered vegetable garden. He loved fishing and the outdoors. He especially loved helping other people. He could always find the good in people, and the many beneficiaries of his kindness will long remember his numerous acts of  service.  Craig will be remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. He worked very hard at everything, and he gave his "absolute best" to everything he did. He was always spiritually and physically prepared. He was a living example of the story of the hired man who could "always sleep when it rains."  Craig is survived by his wife Nancy; their two daughters, Jennifer 18, and April 16; his father, Lynn A. Sorensen; three sisters: Marti (Dennis) Lythgoe, Kathleen (Stanford) McConkie, Cindy Newport; five brothers Lynn (Jenny), Kent (Nedra), Scott (Suzy), Gary (Lori), and Wayne (Janet) Sorensen. He was preceded in death by his mother.  Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 2004, at 12 Noon in the Crescent Park Stake Center, 11350 South 1000 East, Sandy, Utah. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, on Sunday, January 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. before the funeral at the Crescent Park Stake Center.
