At our 20th reunion, Susan came over and sat next to me.  I hadn't seen her since grade school, but she looked just like Susan.  She was aglow and so excited that she had recently married.  And then she reminded me --- when we were just tiny kids at Sherman Elementary - first grade probably - we were so scared and shy.  No one would play with us.  So at recess we both ended up standing on the outside heat vent that vented the chimney of the coal burning furnace.  That way we could keep warm until recess was over, and we would talk shyly to each other.  She surprised me by telling me how much she appreciated my kindness to her back then.  I was just so happy to have a friend.  I should have thanked her.  Thank you, Susan.
