In Memory

Valerie Hair (Liddell)

Our beloved wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend Valorie Hair Liddell died in an auto accident with her daughter Allison while traveling to Lake Powell for a family vacation.

Val was born May 17, 1948, to Dr. Vee Boyd and Maurine Hansen Hair. She attended Granite Schools, graduated from Skyline High School, Brigham Young University and taught English for two years at Churchill Junior High. She married Thomas R. Liddell June 16, 1972, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Val dedicated her life to service in every way. She was active in her community and served as PTA President, as well as participating actively in school and community councils. A devoted member of the LDS church, Val served as Relief Society President several times, as a Young Women's advisor, Primary President, and as a Ward Missionary. She followed her Savior's example always.

Val's main focus was her family. She was her children's number one fan. Through them, she earned three Eagle Scout awards, served two missions, raced mountain bikes worldwide, played on all-star baseball teams, wrestled, water-skied and danced. Her home was a haven for her children's friends. Auntie Val, also, was a playmate to her many nieces and nephews. Her greatest and newest joy in life was being a grandmother to her two beautiful granddaughters. No one could be more proud than she was of Jocelyn and Camille.

Val loved good books, travel, and planting colorful flowers in her garden. She had an easy laugh, a wonderful sense of humor, and a zest for life. She loved people, and made friends easily with her loving and loyal service. Her talent was making each person feel as if they were the most important person in her life. She was an elect lady sent to us to love and cherish. Although she was taken tragically, we are comforted that she is again reunited with her mother and her Heavenly Father. We love you, Mom!

She is survived by husband, Dr. Thomas R. Liddell; children Jay (Diane) Liddell, Aaron (Sandy) Liddell, Jenny (Nathan) Poulson, and Chris Liddell; two grandchildren, Jocelyn and Camille Liddell; father, Vee Boyd Hair; sisters and brothers, Tami (Kim) Karpowitz, Shellie (Neil) Nelson, Brad (Dawn) Hair, Cory (Christine) Hair, and Scott (Kim) Hair. Preceded in death by her mother Maurine Hair.

Funeral services will be held Wed. May 29, at 12 noon at the Granite View Stake Center, 9880 South 3100 East, Sandy, Utah. Friends may call Tues. evening from 6-8 at the stake center and Wed. morning from 10-11:45 preceding the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the LDS Church Missionary Fund. The Salt Lake Tribune report shocked me, learning that Val Hair Liddell and her lovely daughter were in an automobile accident, the first casualties of a Memorial Day weekend.  I saw Val a month before she died. Her sparkling eyes, unique voice and unforgettable laughter are imprinted clearly in my memory.  She loved her life, praised her wonderful children and raved about her successful husband. Her vivacious personality was a treasure. Unfortunately, her storybook world ended abruptly.
