Dr. Kenneth Bills Obituary

Kenneth Gene Bills, 71, passed away Monday, December 30, 2019 from a quick bout with septic shock.  Born July 22, 1948, he was the oldest of 8 children born to Hal Doyle and Bonnie Snyder Bills.  He attended Skyline High School where he excelled on the track team.  While attending the University of Utah, he sang with the Institute Choir and with the Mormon Youth Choir.  He graduated from Creighton Dental School and then did a residency with the University of Tennessee where he specialized in periodontics.  Ken served a mission in the Central British Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served our country in a medic unit of the Army reserve.

He practiced periodontics for more than 30 years.  As a periodontist, he genuinely cared for his patients.  He talked to them about a variety of subjects and loved to hear about their life experiences, thus he was able to develop deep personal connections with them.  He gave his patients the utmost care and treatment; he was always researching new ways to improve his dentistry.

Ken genuinely loved to learn; he was a life-long learner in subjects ranging from the sciences, astronomy, and history to diets and healthy lifestyles. He particularly liked to study about past and present wars.  He was always eager to share his knowledge and experiences with his family and with others. In his youth, Ken was very proficient at playing the accordion.  He was a pilot and loved to fly, and he cheered for all of the local university teams.

Ken married Elia Jovanka Paulus in 2003 and took in her 2 sons as those of his own.  Ken and Elia are the proud parents of Michelle.  He has 2 daughters (Amanda and Jessica) from a prior marriage.  Kenneth was truly an amazing, caring, and loving father to his family.  He was attentive to his family’s needs, especially to those of Elia and Michelle. He spent a lot of time telling stories and teaching them. He enjoyed taking his family on trips to Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon and to St .George to spend time together.  He was so proud of the talents and accomplishments of all 5 children.

He is survived by his beautiful wife, Elia; his mother, Bonnie Bills; his daughters:  Amanda, Jessica and Michelle; his sons: Clint and Richard; his siblings: Marjorie Hutchins, Diane Kenison, Shauna George, Marie Hansen, Gary Bills, Alan Bills; and granddaughter Teagan;  as well as many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, Hal Bills; and brother, Brent Bills.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Cottonwood Creek Ward, 1250 East Murray Holladay Road (4800 S.).  Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 – 10:30 am Saturday prior to the services at the church. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens.
