After Skyline I left on an LDS mission in Jan. 1967 to the North British Mission, returning after 2 years. I returned to the University of Utah, completed a degree in Economic Geography and also married Wendy Steorts in Dec of 1970. In 1972 I was accepted to Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England and completed a Masters in Town and Country Planning with an emphasis on historic towns. Upon returning to the USA, I had a military commitment as a commissioned officer in US Army. My wife also joined the Army and after separate training, we were stationed at Ft. Ord near Montery, California.
After completion of our Military service, we returned to SLC and I started a 36 year career with The Divsion of State History (Utah State Historical Society). My career enabled me to work on many historic buildings including the State Capitol and Governors residence and to consult on several temple restorations and fire damaged historic structures. I also served as staff, manager, State Historic Preservation Officer, and Director. Along the way we had two sons and I completed an MPHIL in Architecture at York University in England. We also started a business in York and bought a second home there, which we had for several years. We made some money in England but not enough to live there. Wendy completed her degree in accounting and became a CPA for Tanner LLC, one of Utah's largest CPA firms where she held many positions, and retired after 34 years as CFO.
Upon our retirement we have worked to raise funds for a hands-on traditional building school in Quito, Ecuador, one of the most important historic cities in the world. We have also traveled extensively and have served three missions, two Service Missions in SLC, and have served in Fiji as full time missionaries, as Assistant Area Auditors. We survived Cyclone Winston, the worst in South Pacific history. See more at wmpicturejoy.
We are living in downtown Salt Lake City and enjoy spending time with our sons their wives and our 3 grandchildren.
