I've worked for ht Salt Lake Tribune nearly my entire adult life. Have covered just about every beat at the paper, including obits, have been and editor, and now I'm a columnist, going on 25 years in that role

School Story

I was told by the graduation committee chairman I would never amount to anything and would never graduate from college. I have two degrees from th U. of U., in political science and journalism. I have decided that guy was in the wrong profession. I owe much of my success to the journalism teacher, Mrs. Jacobs. She inspired me when nobody else could.

Happy birthday. You and I never knew each other in high school but I know your brother-in-law Dave very well when I was a working journalist covering hi many political endeavors. I don't know if I should give this away, but he was always a great source of mine. I also knew and greatly respected your sister-in-law Linda. She ws one of the best journalists in the state. We also have another connection: you and I were born on the same day. So happy St. Patrick's Day birthday. I hope you've enjoyed that designation as I have over the years.
